Work From Home. Stay Safe!

With COVID-19 continuing to impact people and countries around the world, teams and schools everywhere are moving to remote work and distance learning. Make no mistake, these are stressful times. Solutions to work-from-home pitfalls include as much face-to-face interaction online as possible.

work from home

How to survive when working from home can be quite challenging. In our business the secret is to have good working technology. Simply a computer can get you off the ground and running. However we all wished it went that smoothly.

Typically you start having computer problems. Popup windows, slowness, frozen screens, updates in the middle of work and other unexplained chain of events. That’s where PC Repair can help you maintain that level of sanity and continue with your work.

We have the ability to diagnosis problems quickly and usually within a simple phone call. We also use remote software that will allow us access into your computer and we can see what you see and from there we can show you what seems to be the problem. We do this everyday for our clients.

If you looking to connect your servers and other computers from your office to your home office, we can help you with that as well. Using remote and secure links, we can have you pull files from work to your home computer and sharing them with other members of your group. Sounds crazy? Its being done right now, every day.

Working from home has its good points as well. We all know that at some point we will be back in our offices and life goes on. What we need to worry about now is continuing with life and adapting to technology that will not only help improve our quality of life, but pave the way of the future.

At PC Repair of CT we provide technology and solutions for every business.
Partnering as an extension of your team, our experts will help you design, deploy, and support IT solutions that deliver better business outcomes. From security to end-user computing to network collaboration, we are here to help you work from home.

Work at Home Stressfree PC Repair Services Connecticut

Working from home can be a blessing or a curse. Yet working from home¬†does work for some people. The built-in stress is very real, but it’s also manageable. Below are my best stress-busting tips for those who call home the office. PC Repair of CT can help you find the answers to your questions.

Establish boundaries.
The good news is that you don’t have to work 9 to 5. The bad news is that some friends and family may assume you don’t have to work at all. Set firm boundaries about not being disturbed while you’re at the office, even if the office is only feet away. In the long run, you’ll cut down on a lot of frustration and conflict. Treat work like work and be serious.

Claim your territory.
Use your office space and equipment exclusively for work. A whole room is ideal, but a designated corner will do. If you have housemates, you’ll save yourself much stress and aggravation over misplaced papers and accidentally erased computer files. Even if you live alone, you’ll feel more capable and confident in a professional work environment. Try to be organized with your papers and equipment. You have space to work, not an entire house to clutter.

Manage deadlines.
In many work-at-home jobs, ridiculously short turnaround times are the norm. But deadlines don’t automatically have to cause deadline stress. Break down large projects into smaller, less intimidating steps, and set milestones for when each step needs to be completed. Then dive in right away to ward off worry and procrastination. Setup white boards or use electronic project management programs to run your jobs. Basescamp is one of our favorites and Trello.

Meet with colleagues.
Speaking of work friends, make sure you have some, because social isolation is a major source of stress for home-based workers. Online contacts are great, but you also need face-to-face interaction. Join a networking group. Skype or Facetime is another option. Or consider a co workers arrangement, in which you spend some of your work hours in a shared office space.

Take housework breaks.
If you hit a mental block, don’t just sit there growing more and more anxious. Take five, and use those few minutes to tackle a tedious household chore or go for a short walk. Fold the laundry, unload the dishwasher, or make your bed. The chore should require only a modicum of attention enough to distract you from the anxiety of being home but not enough to derail you from the primary mental task at hand. This helps you relax and restore your mental focus.

Count your blessings.
When your neighbors are trudging off to work in bad weather, congratulate yourself on your commute. Your home safe and sound. When you’re having a slow day so you slip out to walk the dog and remind yourself how terrific it is to set your own hours. When your friend is complaining about her horrible boss, think how lucky you are not having to deal with such a boss.

Go home at night.
When you work from home, it’s tempting to never really leave the office. There’s always one more thing to be done, and it’s calling your name from the next room. Ignore it. Learn to close the door and walk away at a reasonable hour. The next morning, you’ll be more relaxed, refreshed, and ready for a new day at the home office. There is always tomorrow and there is always PC Repair of CT to help you get thru the day.

Remote Business is Here

If the Cornavirus has changed your current lifestyle on how you run your business, remote commuting is the way to go. Work at home and keep your business flowing. Reach out to your customers and provide them the needed services to keep them happy and maintained.

remote business

Setting up a path from your home to your business it what we do here at PC Repair. If you need a small group of your staff to access their computers at work, we can make the hookup. From remote desktop to video conferencing, we have the tools to make all those technologies work for you.

One of the most helpful technologies for seamless remote work is video conferencing. Live video feeds help out-of-office workers see and speak to one another in real time, anywhere with an internet connection, which is the next best thing to a face-to-face meeting. You can conduct meetings using Facebook, Skype and other programs.

Now, technology affords us the ability to get the same job done, no matter where in the world we are. Many parents have jumped on the work-from-home bandwagon because of the flexibility and the chance to spend more time with their kids. Remember that you might actually enjoy working from home.

If you looking for help in today’s world, we at PC Repair are local and determined to make this a better place for all. Using every bit of technology, drop by drop.

End of Life Windows 7

Effective January 14, 2020, Microsoft will discontinue Windows 7 support so that we can focus our investment on supporting newer technologies and great new experiences. The specific end of support day for Windows 7 will be January 14, 2020. After that, technical assistance and software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC will no longer be available for the product. Microsoft strongly recommends that you move to Windows 10 sometime before January 2020 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available.

PC Repair can help you with this transition. It important to know that dependent on the year, make and model of your pc running Windows 7, you might NOT be able to upgrade to Windows 10. If this is the case, we can help you find a new or refurbished pc with Windows 10 at an affordable price.

Upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 takes preparation. Here is what PC Repair performs to each computer prior to the upgrade process. The following steps should be done in order to ensure your computer will come back up and and run. Worst case, you can use your backup data and build a new Windows 10 computer with your data.

First thing we need to know is what programs/applications you are currently running on Windows 7. We will then check to see if they will work under a Windows 10 environment. If so, you are good to go at this point. If the program does not work within Windows 10 you have to decide on getting one that works or seek an alternative program if the software manufacturer does not have a working program for Windows 10.

Next you should backup your entire computer. There have been times during the Windows 10 installation that the install fails. This can now leave you with a system that won’t start. Most times, it goes back to Windows 7 if the installation fails, but you should be prepared. Backup all your “hidden files”, bookmarks and anything else you need. You can not backup programs/applications. Do Not Install Windows 10 until you backup your computer.

Next you should find yourself a Windows 10 upgrade disc. You can find that on-line. Next give yourself a good 4 hours to babysit your machine as it will ask you questions during the install. You will know within an hour or so if it will work. If it does fail, it could be simple the age of the machine and processor. Time to upgrade to a new/refurbished computer.

PC Repair has the time and technology to get your machine up and running without changing the current layout. Give us a call today and let us help you in this upgrade process from end of life Windows 7 to Windows 10.
